
Emily Rysberg focuses her practice primarily on family law and municipal law. In her family law practice, she handles divorce, custody, parenting time, support, paternity, and a variety of post-judgment issues. Emily also has extensive experience preparing and negotiating prenuptial agreements of various levels of complexity. Emily has successfully navigated and resolved divorce matters involving sophisticated financial portfolios and family owned businesses.
Emily’s approach to family law is grounded in reasonableness, but is aggressive, as she is always striving to get the best results for her clients in a cost-effective and expeditious manner that allows families to move forward from a difficult situation in the most dignified and healthy way possible. Emily also assists clients with other family related matters such as guardianships of children and adults and contested probate proceedings.
Emily also has extensive experience in the field of municipal law, serving as assistant city attorney to numerous municipalities throughout southwest Michigan and across the state. Emily’s municipal practice is both transactional and litigation based. On the litigation side, Emily has handled contract disputes, employment disputes, Freedom of Information Act disputes, ordinance enforcement, and various other forms of litigation. On the transactional side, Emily also has extensive experience drafting and enforcing ordinances, contract negotiation, drafting of development agreements, jurisdictional transfer agreements, and a myriad of other municipal agreements used by her clients to help local government run smoothly and efficiently.
