Erica Colon developed an interest in litigation and advocating for individuals during law school, where she worked as a student attorney in her school’s legal clinic, representing children and families in a broad range of legal issues. She soon developed passion for representing victims of injuries when she worked as a law clerk for a prominent plaintiff’s law firm in NYC during her summer breaks, focusing in the areas of both medical malpractice and toxic tort.
After graduating, she joined a large national plaintiff’s firm based in New York City, representing individuals nationwide against multi-national corporations, who suffered life-threatening illnesses and diseases caused by workplace exposure to asbestos and other toxic products.
There, she refined her skills as a litigator, conducting and defending depositions, advocating in court, undertaking investigation, and developing a profound understanding of the pain and suffering her clients and their families endured.
In 2015, Erica joined a prominent NYC-based plaintiff’s personal injury firm, where she transitioned her focus toward representation of clients who suffered personal injuries resulting from automobile, premise, construction, and workplace accidents.
Over the past several years, she has successfully settled millions of dollars for her clients for their pain, suffering, and economic losses. Most recently, she assisted in obtaining a $5 million settlement against the City of New York on behalf of an NYC Sanitation worker who suffered catastrophic injuries while on the job.
Erica joins The Perecman Firm in 2018, bringing with her the experiences and skill set which will allow her to continue to advocate successfully on behalf of her clients and obtain just results.
Erica is admitted to practice law in the New York State Courts, and the Federal District Courts of New York for the Eastern and Southern Districts. She is also a member of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association.
Erica earned her Juris Doctor from Syracuse University College of Law, where she received four CALI Awards for excellence in education, in the areas of Legal Writing and Trial Advocacy. As a law student, she worked as a student attorney at the Syracuse Children’s and Family Rights Legal Clinic, and was an active member of the Pro Bono Society, assisting community members in the low-income bankruptcy and divorce proceedings.
