Gang Wang, Ph.D. focuses his practice on intellectual property matters, with particular emphasis on patent counseling and prosecution. Dr. Wang draws upon extensive industry experience to provide targeted and business minded patent advice to companies spanning the pharmaceuticals and biotechnology sectors.
His experience in drug discovery makes him well-positioned to understand clients’ research strategies and appreciate the values of clients’ innovations. He has assisted IP litigation teams in developing strategies, drafting trade secrets, and preparing depositions and expert reports.
Dr. Wang specializes in areas of organic chemistry and nucleic acid chemistry, and his experience includes preparation and prosecution of US and foreign patent applications for technologies relating to pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, including small molecules, peptides, and oligonucleotides; freedom-to-operate and patentability analyses; due-diligence investigations in connection with acquisition and licensing; invalidity and non-infringement analyses in view of recent cases relating to Hatch-Waxman Act.
Dr. Wang started off his career working as a scientist and senior scientist at Alnylam Pharmaceuticals, where he designed and synthesized chemically modified siRNAs, which were conjugated with various receptor targeting molecules. In particular, he was involved in synthesis and optimization of multivalent GalNAc conjugated siRNAs, which has led to the GalNAc-siRNA conjugate platform.
Additionally, Dr. Wang worked as a patent intern at Momenta Pharmaceuticals, working closely with counsels and attorneys in its legal department. His projects at Momenta include studying recent cases on patentable subject matter, and cases relating to Hatch-Waxman Act and direct and indirect infringement.
Dr. Wang received his PhD in Organic Chemistry in the Jones Lab at Rutgers University-New Brunswick. Under the supervision of Professor Roger A. Jones, his dissertation studies include design and synthesis of isotope (C13 and N15) labeled nucleic acids and oligonucleotides.
