Garrett F. Bishop is an associate and business lawyer with Foley & Lardner LLP. Mr. Bishop practices general corporate and business law with an emphasis in securities law, corporate governance and mergers and acquisitions.
Mr. Bishop also regularly represents mutual funds, exchange-traded funds and publicly traded investment advisers with respect to all aspects of the Investment Company Act and the Investment Advisers Act, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, public disclosure and reporting and the offering of securities.
He is a member of the firm’s Transactional & Securities, Corporate Governance, Fund Formation & Investment Management, Mergers & Acquisitions, Private Funds & Buyout, and Securities & Corporate Finance Practices.
Prior to joining Foley, Mr. Bishop participated in the Summer Honors Programs and externships of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, D.C. where, among other responsibilities, he aided staff in the implementation of Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act rulemakings relating to derivatives.
- Represented Whiting Petroleum Corporation (NYSE: WLL) in its acquisition of Kodiak Oil & Gas Corp. (NYSE: KOG), a transaction that created the largest producer in the Bakken shale play in Eastern Montana and Western North Dakota
- Represented Badger Meter Inc. (NYSE: BMI) in its acquisition of National Meter and Automation, Inc., a major distributor of Badger Meter products for the municipal water utility market
Education :
Mr. Bishop earned his law degree from The George Washington University Law School (J.D., 2013), where he was a co-founder of the Forum on Law, Economics and Finance. He received his master’s degree in applied economics from Johns Hopkins University (M.A., 2008) and his undergraduate degree in international affairs from The George Washington University (B.A., cum laude, 2006).

Representative Matters :
- Foley represented Omron Management Center of America, Inc., a U.S. subsidiary of Japan-based Omron Corporation, which provides automation, sensing, and control products and services to several industries worldwide in the acquisition of Adept Technology. The transaction involved an all cash tender offer followed by a second-step merger.
- Foley represented Milwaukee Bucks President and Owner Herbert Kohl in the sale of the basketball franchise to New York investment firm executives Marc Lasry and Wesley Edens. The deal, announced on April 16, 2014, is valued at approximately $550 million.
- Consistent with his commitment to the Bucks and Milwaukee, Kohl, a former U.S. Senator from Wisconsin, has pledged a $100 million gift for the development of a new arena for the team. In addition to honoring Kohl’s requirement that the team be kept in Milwaukee, the prospective new owners have committed to contribute at least an additional $100 million towards the development of a new arena in the city.
