Gary P Sklaver

An experienced litigator and trusted counselor, Gary offers clients of Licari, Walsh & Sklaver, LLC over thirty nine years of legal experience both in and out of the courtroom. A native of Waterbury, Connecticut Gary is a graduate of Taft School, Amherst College and Case Western Reserve University School of Law.

At both Taft School and Amherst College, Gary was an outstanding wrestler, captain of his team for multiple years at both schools, and in 1970 was recognized as a College Division All American.

Gary’s practice focuses on the areas of business law, commercial and residential real estate, leases, contract negotiation/drafting, estate planning, probate administration, Will contests and probate litigation, civil litigation, mortgage modifications and foreclosure defense, unfair debt collection claims, unfair and deceptive practices, auto fraud, lemon law, home improvement claims, predatory lending claims, protection of the elderly and contracts.

In 2006, Gary was elected President of the New Haven County Bar Association, representing over 1400 attorneys in the greater New Haven area. As president, Gary worked to improve the quality of legal services offered to the public. Gary also is a past recipient of the Bar Association’s Pro Bono Award, given in recognition of his commitment to serving the needs of individuals with limited financial resources.

In 2010 Gary received the New Haven County Bar’s Yale Sappern Civility Award which is awarded to an individual who strives for excellence, encourages new attorneys, is candid and honest towards the Court and to colleagues, is courteous to clients, attorneys, court and staff and helps colleagues without drawing attention to self.

Actively involved in his community, Gary is a past president of Congregation Mishkan Israel in Hamden, Connecticut and a past board member of the Jewish Community Center of Greater New Haven and a current board member of the Boys and Girls Club of  New Haven and a member of the Branford Rotary.

Gary is also treasurer and former director of ClearWater Initiative Corporation, a non-profit corporation dedicated to humanitarian relief in post conflict areas of Uganda.

ClearWater was started by Gary’s son, Benjamin, who lost his life in 2009 while serving as a Captain in the U.S. Army in Afghanistan. He is also a volunteer attorney with the Connecticut Veterans Legal Center assisting veterans facing foreclosure.
