Gary R. Basham is the Owner and Founding Shareholder of the Basham Law Group, where he exclusively practices employment law and related litigation. Gary advises clients on numerous workplace law issues and has extensive experience in wrongful termination, sexual harassment, retaliation, employment discrimination, wage and hour, unfair competition and third party disability access litigation in federal and state courts and agencies throughout Northern California.
Gary regularly litigates single and multi-plaintiff employment claims for breach of contract, discrimination, retaliation, harassment, wrongful termination, unfair business practices, violation of wage and hour laws, as well as numerous other tort and statutory employment law causes of action.
Gary also regularly defends companies against disability equal access claims in state and federal courts. Substantive areas of expertise include the Age Discrimination and Employment Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, Title VII, Equal Pay Act, Family Medical Leave Act, California Fair Employment and Housing Act, California Labor Code, Private Attorneys General Act, California Family Rights Act, California Workplace Violence Safety Act, and workplace privacy laws.
Gary is a member of the Labor and Employment Section of the State Bar of California, Sacramento County Bar Association, Sacramento Human Resource Management Association, Central Valley Human Resource Management Association, California Chamber of Commerce, and Professional Liability Underwriting Society.
For several years, Gary served on the California Chamber of Commerce’s Committee on Employee Relations. Gary also serves as a mediator for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California’s Voluntary Dispute Resolution Program.
Gary graduated with honors in 1984 from Michigan State University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Finance. In 1987, Gary graduated from the University of Michigan Law School and received his Juris Doctor cum laude.
In addition to his law practice, Gary also is actively engaged in various community service activities. From December 2003 through May 2009, Gary was the Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Sacramento Union Gospel Mission, an organization dedicated to helping the homeless. Gary continues to volunteer his time to the Union Gospel Mission, as well as other organizations which feed the hungry and house the homeless.
