Geoffrey Brounell concentrates his practice on litigation, and represents media, entertainment, technology, and commercial clients across the United States at both the trial and appellate levels. Geoffrey also maintains an active pro bono practice, for which he has won multiple awards.
Geoffrey’s prior experience spans civil, criminal, and appellate litigation, and includes serving as a Special Assistant to the New Jersey Attorney General, where he helped oversee and supervise the approximately 8,100-person New Jersey Office of the Attorney General.
Geoffrey has defended numerous companies and individuals in connection with defamation, copyright, breach of contract, and related First Amendment and commercial claims, including A&E, the New York Daily News, the New York Post, Sports Illustrated, Simon & Schuster, Penguin Random House, and Pearson, as well as authors and reporters.
In addition, Geoffrey has extensive experience litigating the enforceability of releases signed by individuals in connection with television and film appearances. Geoffrey also advises clients and teaches courses on this topic.
Geoffrey has litigated dozens of business disputes in both state and federal courts, representing both defendants and plaintiffs. Geoffrey also has significant experience defending cases brought in small claims courts (and other courts of limited monetary jurisdiction) in New York and New Jersey. Geoffrey’s clients include Amazon.com, Avvo, MetroPCS, and Zulily.
Geoffrey represents United We Dream in its efforts to challenge the Government’s attempt to rescind Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). Geoffrey has also submitted amicus briefs—including multiple briefs in the U.S. Supreme Court—on behalf of more than 130 members of Congress in cases challenging President Trump’s “Travel Ban” executive orders.
Geoffrey’s pro bono practice also includes the representation of individuals in connection with immigration and criminal matters.
