Gerard Wimberly

Akerman LLP

Gerard Wimberly’s practice focuses on complex commercial litigation with an emphasis on government contracts law. Having served as a council member of the ABA’s Section of Public Contracts law, and continuing to serve as co-chair of the Section’s Division of State & Local Procurement law, Gerard maintains an active leadership role in developments in all aspects of public contracting.

With over 35 years of experience spanning positions in several major law firms and as senior counsel to Motorola Inc., Gerard is comfortable providing legal advice of the highest order of complexity and significance to a business.

Gerard has been lead or co-lead counsel in numerous big cases involving government contracts law, financial fraud, and antitrust. His client base includes both Fortune 100 companies and small, socio-economically disadvantaged businesses.

He typically works on matters where the stakes are high, the issues extraordinarily complex, and the court or client schedules tight. Where needed, Gerard draws on a deep bench of lawyers at Akerman skilled in civil and criminal litigation in any jurisdiction—city, state, and federal courts; arbitral tribunals.

Gerard has experience in all aspects of government contracts law and has handled numerous state and federal bid protests as well as contract claims. Gerard is experienced in False Claims Act cases, state and federal, and has served as lead counsel for major companies in recent actions.

Gerard has always looked to the depths of law and legal practice. He served as a law clerk to Justice James L. Dennis of the Louisiana Supreme Court. He is an elected member of the American Law Institute, and has participated in consultative committees for several projects, including Principles of Aggregate Litigation and Software Contracts. Gerard is working on ALI projects in the areas of consumer contracts and government ethics.
