Gilbert C. “Gib” Laite, III concentrates his practice in the general areas of construction, real estate, securities representatives, commercial collections, business and loan workouts, lender liability and railroads. Gib’s practice includes the drafting and litigation of construction contracts, leases and other business documents, and includes both consultation and dispute resolution.
For more than 20 years, Gib has handled a wide variety of matters, including contracts involving construction, sale of business, sale of goods, sale of real estate, securities representatives and letters of intent; landlord and tenant disputes involving lease defaults, business workouts and wind-downs; construction contracts, delays, payment defaults, defects, liens and bonds; condemnations/eminent domain; railroad right of way matters; real estate escrow disputes; real estate broker, real estate appraiser and general contractor licensing board complaints and compliance; and partnership matters.
Gib also advises clients in property tax matters. He frequently assists clients with the negotiation and litigation of cases involving real and personal property taxes and the assessment of tax-exempt properties.
Gib is a former general counsel to the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce. He has also served on the boards of directors and executive committees of numerous civic organizations.
Before joining the firm, he served for two years as a law clerk to the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina. Prior to attending law school, Gib was licensed as a real estate broker, with experience in construction, development, sales, finance and general business matters.
Gib earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from the University of Southern Maine and a Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, from the Wake Forest University School of Law.
