Gregory Herman Dacpano Alumit is an experienced trial attorney who works to make the community safer by advocating for victims of abusive or negligent practices. To that end, he primarily handles personal injury and workers’ compensation cases.
“Growing up, I traveled extensively to a number of developing countries, and after witnessing many instances of abject poverty and inequality in those nations, I decided that I wanted to work in a profession where I would be able to bring a voice to people who didn’t have one,” says Alumit of his motivation for becoming a lawyer.
Prior to attending law school, Alumit was further encouraged to pursue a career in law after managing the law office of D.C. Shadow Senator Paul Strauss, who at the time was focused on helping neglected children and union employees.
In addition, Alumit later went to work at a large New York City mass tort law firm as a paralegal for Paul Pennock, an attorney known nationally for representing victims of defective drugs and devices.
“As mentors, these attorneys were examples of where a legal career could take me,” Alumit says. “Both of them enjoy their work, are devoted to their families and still make time to help people and give back to their communities—seeing their careers, I knew that law school would be the right path for me.”
Alumit has since established a successful track record as a lawyer in cases large and small. His results include millions in mass torts and construction defect cases, as well as smaller recoveries for disability clients seeking Social Security benefits.+
“There’s never a dull moment in this job,” Alumit says. “I’m always learning something new from my colleagues or research; and it helps that we have a great team here that works well together in achieving our clients’ goals.”
To stay abreast of cutting-edge legal issues, Alumit regularly attends continuing legal education events; and, he himself taught a well-received continuing legal education seminar on real property litigation.
“I pride myself on having the knowledge and communication skills to help clients, judges and opposing counsel grasp unfamiliar legal concepts, so receiving positive reviews from my respected colleagues after teaching that seminar was very satisfying.”
It’s no wonder then that Alumit has been selected as a “Top 40 Under 40” by The National Advocates, an award that is given to the top advocacy attorneys in each state who are age 40 and under.
Also rewarding, Alumit notes, is his volunteer work, which includes attending events for Big Brothers Big Sisters and participating in cancer fundraising activities such as Cycle for Survival and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. Moreover, along with his family he assists in medical missions to the Philippines, where he has started a nutrition program at an elementary school in his parents’ hometown.
“My priority in life is my immediate family and for them to always be proud of me,” Alumit says. “Ever since I was young, my parents have instilled in me the importance of helping others and being a man of my word; so in my practice, as in my life, I make a point of being honest and following through on what I say I will do.”
