Gretel Echarte Morales is an associate in Mayer Brown’s Washington DC office and a member of the Government Relations & Public Law and International Trade practices. Gretel advises firm clients on a wide range of sanctions and export controls matters, including regulatory compliance, due diligence in advance of acquisitions, IPOs, and other major transactions.
She advises clients in connection with internal investigations, voluntary disclosures, and compliance monitorships. Additionally, Gretel, who was born, raised and educated in Havana, Cuba assists firm clients seeking to establish a presence, or operating, in Cuba under current US sanctions regulations.
Gretel also assists firm clients on trade-related matters involving appeals of antidumping determinations before the Court of International Trade. Furthermore, she also serves in the Monitor’s team conducting the FCPA monitorship of a major airline.
Prior to joining the firm, Gretel was a litigator in Florida, where she handled cases involving complex commercial litigation, medical malpractice, and insurance defense matters. In addition to Spanish and English, Gretel is fluent in French and Italian.
