H. Joseph Escher is a partner in Dechert’s complex commercial litigation practice, and managing partner of the firm’s San Francisco office. In his 37 years of practicing business litigation, Mr. Escher has litigated a broad spectrum of disputes, including consumer class actions, mass tort and personal injury and unfair competition cases. He has significant experience in both trial and appellate matters.
Recent major client representations include Golden Living, John Hancock Life Insurance, Associa, Inc., Time Warner Cable Inc., Takata Corporation, and Fillmore Capital Partners. Mr. Escher has also argued many appeals, including the Fifth Circuit’s recent reversal of orders denying arbitration in the nursing home context.
In 2013, The Legal 500 United States recognized Mr. Escher for his mass torts defense work. He has also been described by clients in Legal 500 as “extremely smart and strategic.” Prior to joining Dechert, Mr. Escher was the litigation department chair of a major San Francisco law firm.
