Harrison Dossick

Harrison J. Dossick, a partner in the Century City office, leads the Litigation and Dispute Resolution sector of the Firm’s global Entertainment and Media Industry Group. For more than 25 years, his practice has focused on resolving copyright, idea submission, trademark, licensing, false advertising, right of publicity, profit participation, and other complex disputes in state and federal court and arbitration proceedings for major and “mini major” studios, production companies, distributors, content owners and other institutional motion picture and television industry clients.

Harrison also has vast experience counseling and protecting Internet-based news and blog sites in connection with First Amendment issues and copyright, invasion of privacy and defamation claims, litigating trade secrets and other business disputes, and representing creditors in judgment enforcement, adversary bankruptcy proceedings and related actions.

Harrison has been recognized as a Southern California Super Lawyer in Los Angeles Magazine and Southern California Super Lawyers Magazine (2006–2010, 2014-2017).

Harrison has authored more than a dozen articles published in the Los Angeles Daily Journal and Los Angeles Lawyer Magazine, including the cover story in its Seventeenth Annual Entertainment Law Issue, entitled, “Facing the Music” (co-authored with former Katten partner David Halberstadter).

He also has spoken at numerous seminars and conferences sponsored by the Los Angeles Copyright Society, the Beverly Hills Bar Association, the Century City Chamber of Commerce, iHollywood Forum, the California Society of CPAs and the Los Angeles County Bar Association on litigation and entertainment industry-related topics.

EXPERIENCE :

• C2 Pictures, LLC v. Sony Pictures Entertainment. Defended studio in profit participation dispute brought by producers of sequel to “Basic Instinct.”
• Creatier Interactive, LLC v. Bates et al. Lead counsel to technology company in theft of trade secrets and related disputes.
• Grigson v. Creative Artists Agency, Columbia TriStar Home Video and Sony Pictures Entertainment. Lead defense counsel to motion picture studio in case alleging breach of distribution agreement involving sequel to “Texas Chainsaw Massacre.”
• In re Yari Film Group Releasing, LLC. Litigation counsel to major motion picture studio/distributor in bankruptcy court adversary proceedings; successfully defeated Debtor’s efforts to enjoin DVD release of licensed films.
• Jackson v. Universal Pictures LLLP. Successfully defended studio in action to enjoin theatrical release of motion picture.
