Heather M Brown

Heather M. Brown-Olsen brings thirty-one years of transactional commercial and residential real estate experience to the firm, representing developers and homeowners with project inception, simple and complex financing and refinance, acquisition, subdivision, and large and small project contracts, each with a one-on-one client-focused transactional approach.

Heather also has many years of experience with complex matrimonial matters, usually involving post-judgment issues and a technical, collaborative law approach for newly-initiated matrimonial matters. In addition to real estate and matrimonial issues, Heather handles business formations, estate planning, probate administration and general litigation.

Heather received her BA in Legal Studies from the University of Illinois in 1980, where she was recipient of a full academic scholarship.  From 1975-1980, Heather worked as a paralegal with the consumer fraud division of the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection and became a hazardous materials specialist with the Illinois Department of Transportation. She also received the Bell Labs honor award in physics and was a finalist for the national Truman Scholarship.

A 1984 graduate of Pace University School of Law (honors), Heather received the class award for excellence in writing and was hired by the firm of Mudge Rose Guthrie and Alexander in the municipal finance department.

Heather has had a diverse practice in both state and federal civil litigation. She has many reported civil and appellate cases, both as a practicing attorney and as an appointed attorney trial referee.

In 1997, she was appointed by the Connecticut Supreme Court to serve as a judicial magistrate, and regularly served on the bench in Stamford, Norwalk, Danbury and Waterbury Superior Courts until her retirement in 2011.  Heather continues to serve as a Superior Court Attorney Trial Referee.

In 1997, Heather developed CT-Title.com, Connecticut’s first on-line title insurance agency, independently developed several properties, served on the board of directors of Roton Point Association, Inc. – Connecticut’s first Common Ownership Act recreational condominium, where she acted as land use chair and finance chair for many years.

Heather also volunteered to form several associations to support special education parents’ assistance and is a trained advocate for children with special needs.

Heather is licensed to practice in Arizona, Connecticut and New York  courts and is a member of the Arizona Bar Association, the Connecticut Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association and the Fairfield County Bar Association, where she serves as co-chair of the Real Estate Law Committee.

In addition, Heather is a certified attorney for minor children and Guardian Ad Litem, serves as a volunteer for the pro-bono family law clinic in Stamford, and serves as Legal Officer for the Darien Sailing and Power Squadron and Judge for the International Environmental Law Moot Court Competition.
