Heidi K. Ruckriegle’s practice centers on natural resources, energy, environmental and public lands matters. She represents clients in oil and gas development, mining projects, transmission infrastructure, renewable energy infrastructure and water law.
She also counsels clients on various recreation matters, including advising ski areas on environmental issues and land use permitting and development. Ms. Ruckriegle’s regional, national and international experience spans all stages of permitting, development and compliance for clients.
Ms. Ruckriegle began her legal career as a law clerk to the honorable Gregory J. Hobbs, Jr., of the Colorado Supreme Court. Prior to joining WilmerHale, Ms. Ruckriegle practiced at a boutique natural resources firm, where she advised on administrative law matters and supported shareholders in representation of clients in federal court and before the Departments of the Interior and Energy, the Bureau of Land Management, and the United States Forest Service, as well as in state court and before state agencies and commissions.
She also conducted research and advised on the Federal Land Policy Management Act, National Environmental Policy Act, Endangered Species Act, National Historic Preservation Act and Clean Water Act. Additionally, Ms. Ruckriegle addressed regulatory matters before the Colorado Oil & Gas Conservation Commission.
While in law school, Ms. Ruckriegle gained experience as a summer associate at another firm, where she focused on the intersection of energy development and the Endangered Species Act; served as a Commissioner with the Upper Blue Basin Planning Commission; interned for Judge Blackburn of the United States District Court for the District of Colorado; worked as a research assistant with the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation; and held internships with the Office of Regional Council’s Environmental Protection Agency Region 8 and the Colorado Department of Natural Resources.
Ms. Ruckriegle is admitted to practice at the state and federal levels in Colorado and Wyoming and before the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.
Ms. Ruckriegle is a trustee to the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation, the Vice-Chair of the Colorado Bar Association’s Natural Resources and Energy Law Section, Membership Vice-Chair of the American Bar Association Public Lands Committee, a Board Member with CoActive, a Board Member of the Colorado Chapter of Amigos de Las Americas, and serves on University of Denver Sturm College of Law’s Alumni Council.
