Jim is a member of the firm’s tax department and his practice includes estate and trust planning and administration, employee benefits, tax planning for individuals and businesses and general litigation.
Members of the tax department have special education and experience in federal, state and local tax law. They work closely with each other and hold regular meetings to discuss client matters and new developments in the tax area. Some of the services they provide are:
Advice concerning lifetime and at-death transfers of assets, including preparation and design of wills, trusts, gift programs and other techniques affecting death transfer taxes.
Probate of estates, preparation of estate tax returns and post-death tax planning.
Business Formation, Liquidation and Transfer
Advice and document preparation concerning sole proprietorships, partnerships, corporations and other business forms, merger, consolidation and liquidation of businesses and sale or purchase of businesses.
Design and documentation of qualified and nonqualified employee retirement and health plans, as well as tax planning regarding contributions to and withdrawals from the plans.
Tax Procedure and Practice
Representation in controversies with the Internal Revenue Service, Arkansas State Revenue Department and other taxing authorities at all levels from the initial audit conferences to litigation in federal, state and tax courts.
Tax Exempt Organizations
Formation of and advice regarding various charitable and other tax exempt organizations, such as nonprofit corporations and private foundations.
