James P. Cusick, a partner in our Professional Liability practice, specializes in the trial and litigation of accounting, financial services, class action and other commercial cases. Jim represents accounting firms and corporations in a variety of civil and regulatory enforcement matters.
Most recently, in March 2017, Jim was the lead trial lawyer in the defense of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in a three-week jury trial in the Southern District of New York.
With 25+ years of experience as a law-firm litigator, Jim represents clients in accounting malpractice and securities litigation, financial services litigation, and regulatory enforcement proceedings.
Jim has tried more than a dozen cases in federal and state courts across the country during his career, and arbitrated several more. In March 2017, Jim was the lead trial lawyer in the defense of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in a three-week jury trial in the Southern District of New York. The audit malpractice case, brought by MF Global, as Plan Administrator, sought $3 billion in damages.
Jim has defended clients in regulatory investigations and enforcement proceedings before the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the Department of Justice, and the New York Attorney General’s Office.
From 2001 to 2006, Jim was a managing director in Morgan Stanley’s Law Division. As global co-head of litigation, he supervised 50 lawyers handling litigation, arbitration and regulatory matters worldwide.
In 2011, Jim was recognized by Legal 500 for securities shareholder litigation.
