James Sconzo, an accomplished trial attorney, has defended a broad range of employers in all manner of labor and employment matters, including lawsuits based on discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful discharge, ERISA, Title IX, breach of contract, trade secrets, and non-competes. He has represented employers in single plaintiff, multiple plaintiff and class action contexts, and has extensive experience with investigations, whistleblower claims, and governance matters.
James represents a variety of colleges, universities, and private and public primary and secondary schools. He is involved in investigations of sexual misconduct, harassment, discrimination, and other wrongdoing. He advises on student discipline, policies, board governance, disability accommodation, and federal and state regulatory issues, such as Title IX, the DOL’s Dear Colleague Letters, the Clery Act, Campus SaVE Act, and VAWA. He has sat on a college’s Sexual Misconduct Task Force, represented universities in investigations by the DOE of gender equity in athletics, and defended faculty tenure cases.
The Connecticut District Court has designated James a Special Master for employment cases. He has acted as a mediator and arbitrator and is regularly involved in alternative dispute resolution. James also has extensive experience in ERISA matters including group health and disability insurance litigation.
James, an editor of the Connecticut Employment Law Letter, regularly writes and speaks on matters relating to employment and education law, alternative dispute resolution, and civil practice. He is also an editor and chapter author of the Handbook on ERISA Litigation. James is chair of the firm’s labor and employment practice group.
