Mr. James S. Yu is a senior counsel in the Litigation and Labor & Employment Departments. He has regularly handled and tried a diverse range of matters, including complex contract disputes, trade secret misappropriation and business tort cases, products liability and toxic tort defense, real estate litigation, shareholder disputes, and several actions defending servicers of commercial mortgage loans involving multi-level debt structures.
Mr. Yu has particular expertise on trade secret protection, computer fraud and non-compete agreements. He has both obtained and fought restraining orders and injunctions against former employees and competitors for alleged theft of confidential information and/or breach of restrictive covenants on behalf of clients involved in a broad spectrum of industries, including digital advertising, medical device technologies, fashion and retail, software development, and the staffing industry.
Mr. Yu also has substantial experience defending against claims of injury or damage arising from alleged premises defects or fear of injury arising from alleged exposure to toxic substances. Mr. Yu is actively involved in pro bono work for the Asian-Pacific American community in New York, as well as clients referred by the Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts and the Lawyers Alliance for New York.
He is a former Officer and Director of the Asian American Bar Association of New York and also formerly served as co-chair of its Litigation Committee. From 2000 to 2001, Mr. Yu served as a law clerk to the Honorable Ariel A. Rodriguez of the Superior Court of New Jersey, Appellate Division.
