
Jamie Hamelburg, a business law lawyer and member of Press, Dozier & Hamelburg.
Her practice on general business law, where she counsels clients on issues including type of entity and start-up, employment and contractor agreements, operating agreements and bylaws, resolution of business disputes and debt collection, and succession planning and dissolution.
She has developed a particular focus in serving as legal counsel for small businesses and handling the myriad issues they face. She authored “Starting Your Business in Montgomery County, Maryland,” a resource for new businesses in Montgomery County.
In her commercial real estate practice, Ms. Hamelburg reviews loan documents and advises on real estate transactions both simple and complex. She reviews lease agreements and also handles landlord/tenant and other property disputes, regularly appearing at the Maryland District Court’s Landlord Tenant Court.
She represents landlords ranging in size from large commercial property owners and managers to small store-fronts and one-unit residences, and also represents tenants in both commercial and residential disputes.
Ms. Hamelburg also prosecutes foreclosure actions and assists creditors on other matters regarding collection of debts. Additionally, she handles matters involving government contracts and trusts and estates.
Ms. Hamelburg began her legal career by clerking for the Honorable Rudolph J. Gerber on the Arizona Court of Appeals. She then moved to the Washington, DC area, where she became an associate at McKenna & Cuneo (now McKenna Long & Aldridge).
She worked there from 1990-1995, where she gained extensive experience in litigation before the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the Armed Services Board of Contract Appeals, and in bid protests before the General Accounting Office.
Her practice included litigation of complex contractual issues, such as those arising out of the termination for default of the A-12 advanced tactical aircraft. Ms. Hamelburg graduated from The University of Michigan Law School in 1989. She is licensed to practice in both Maryland and Washington, D.C.
