Jane Ryan has practiced in the energy law area for over 35 years, principally in contested proceedings. She helps electric utilities resolve complex contested matters in proceedings before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), in federal courts, and in arbitrations, including contract disputes and market manipulation claims.
Representing Southern California Edison Company in the multitude of ongoing proceedings associated with the California energy crisis, she has been instrumental in achieving hundreds of millions of dollars in refunds through litigation and settlement with more than 50 parties.
Jane has represented energy clients in a variety of complex civil matters before state and federal courts and in arbitrations. Such matters have included contract and tort actions involving failures at nuclear power plants, power supply, coal transportation, and transmission service disputes, and RICO claims. Jane also has served as an arbitrator in disputes involving transmission service agreements.
In addition, Jane carries an active pro bono practice. She is leading a project, in conjunction with the Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law, to advocate and provide legal counsel for college students experiencing campus mental health discrimination.
