Janel Ostrem received her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her law degree from the University of Washington, where she served as a Notes and Comments editor for the Washington Law Review. Janel began her law practice representing individuals in South King County, relocating her work to the Seattle area when joining Seattle Divorce Services. Janel currently serves on the board of directors for Solid Ground, a local non-profit working to end poverty in our community.
Her philosophy is to never add conflict to a family law case. The parties involved have often had difficulty with effective communication and she views it as part of my job to facilitate and even strengthen communications as the parties’ work towards a resolution. She believes that much more is accomplished through civility than bullying. Towards that end, she prefers to negotiate when she can.
Her approach to practicing law is a personable one as she puts her clients first. She has found that thoughtful analysis, combined with respectful communications with the other side, difficult situations can be resolved.
