Janet Scott is an experienced attorney. She has practiced in several areas, including criminal law, education law, employment, entertainment and insurance defense. Currently, Janet is an Attorney with Smith, Welch, Webb & White, LLC. Smith Welch is a general practice law firm and is the largest firm on the south side of Atlanta. As an Attorney at Smith, Welch, Webb & White, LLC, Janet specializes in Education law.
Janet has experience litigating school law matters in federal and state courts for multiple Georgia school districts. Additionally, Janet utilizes her former experience as a middle school educator, when representing Georgia School Districts.
A cum laude graduate of Spelman College, Janet also holds a Master of Arts degree in Education from Mercer University. She attended Texas Wesleyan School of Law, Fort Worth, Texas, and earned her law degree from John Marshall Law School, Atlanta, Georgia.
During law school, Janet interned with Emory University School of Law’s Barton Child Law and Policy Clinic. She also served as an Extern at the Fulton County Superior Court with The Honorable Bensonetta Tipton Lane.
Presently, Janet also serves on the United States Selective Service Board for DeKalb County, Georgia. She is a graduate of Leadership DeKalb, Class of 2010. She is also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Lastly, Janet served as the Chair of the St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Southern Evening of Hope, A Legends for Charity Event from 2014-2015. She continues to support this event which raises money to help children diagnosed with various forms of cancer.
Janet has been recognized by the Georgia Young Lawyers’ Division, twice, for her outstanding service to the YLD and by the Georgia Association of Women Lawyers as a Scholarship Recipient and an Outstanding Law Student.
In 2015, Janet was named one of Rolling Out Magazine and the Steed Society’s Top 25 Women of Atlanta.
Janet was also named in the Atlanta Business Chronicle’s 2016 Who’s Who in the Legal community and the Atlanta Business League’s 2016 100 Women of Influence.
Prior to attending law school, Janet taught at Chamblee Middle School and was recognized in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers.
