Jasmine Derrice Rippy focuses her practice on criminal defense. She developed an interest in law through her father, who is also an attorney. Her passion for criminal defense stems from seeing injustices in the criminal justice system, such as wrongful convictions and harsh sentencing practices.
Rippy has experience defending felony and misdemeanor charges in courts throughout Wayne, Macomb and Oakland counties. She has been successful in getting criminal charges dismissed and reduced. Because of her expertise in criminal defense, Rippy has put clients in a better position than they were in when they first contacted her.
Prior to pursuing her passion in criminal defense, Rippy worked at a business law firm in Metro Detroit where she represented sellers in mergers and acquisitions. Rippy uses the negotiation and advocacy skills she developed in this position to advocate for clients facing criminal charges at all stages of their case, such as arraignments when bond is set, pre-trial negotiations with prosecutors, trials and sentencing.
In law school, Rippy interned with the local Legal Aid organization where she prepared motions to prevent police from using as evidence drugs obtained through unlawful searches and seizures. Through internships with two federal judges, Rippy gained insight into how judges assess cases.
