Jason Levin

Jason Levin, managing partner for Steptoe’s Los Angeles office, is a litigator with significant jury and bench trial experience in complex litigation. He represents companies in unfair competition and class action, and mass tort, toxic tort, and environmental injury cases across the country. Jason represents businesses in consumer class actions and competitor lawsuits brought under the California’s Unfair Competition Law (Section 17200), False Advertising Law, Consumer Legal Remedies Act, and the Lanham Act.

His clients include the manufacturers and retailers of consumer products accused of illegal, deceptive, or unfair advertising, product labeling, and marketing practices. Jason has found that making prompt challenges to the merits of these claims, and raising defenses of jurisdiction, FDA preemption, and choice-of-law, can lead to early and cost-effective case resolution.

In mass tort, toxic tort, and environmental cases, Jason defends against personal injury, property damage, medical monitoring, cost recovery, and injunctive relief claims under various state and federal laws, including California Proposition 65, RCRA, the Clean Water Act, CERCLA, and the Clean Air Act.

These claims involve a variety of chemicals and metals (including benzene, gasoline, DBCP, diacetyl, bisphenol-A, arsenic, lead, and silica), that are found in consumer products or have entered the environment from leaking underground storage tanks (LUSTs), landfills, Superfund sites, workplace operations, and petroleum refining, transportation, and storage facilities.
