Jay A. Hamad

Jay A. Hamad focuses his practice in the areas of admiralty and maritime law, marine construction litigation, medical malpractice, professional liability and general liability.

Jay defends clients in professional liability matters, maritime law claims involving the Jones Act, maritime related personal injury cases, complex Medical Malpractice matters, and disciplinary proceedings initiated by the Office of the Attorney General and the Board of Medical Examiners.

He has served as lead counsel in jury trials, binding arbitrations and disciplinary hearings before the Office of the Attorney General and the Board of Medical Examiners which have yielded defense verdicts and positive outcomes for his clients.

During his career, Jay has handled matters involving various aspects of maritime law as well as transportation law. He has represented clients in commercial and personal injury litigation associated with the marine industry.

Jay has represented clients ranging from internationally recognized medical institutions and national corporations in federal district court to small medical practice groups in a wide variety of marine, commercial, casualty and complex medical malpractice litigation.

He has litigated a significant number of claims involving complex medical issues, such as allegations of failure to diagnose Chiari I Malformation, failure to implement more accurate testing modalities by Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis Laboratory, as well as failure to adequately manage a post-trigone laceration repair patient.

Jay has routinely retained highly-qualified experts in multiple disciplines in order to defend sophisticated matters on a variety of levels, thus contributing to defense verdicts and settlements far below the plaintiffs’ monetary demands.

After serving as a law clerk to the Honorable Bryan D. Garruto, Jay joined the law firm of McDonough, Korn, Eichhorn, & Schorr, where he concentrated his practice on defense of physicians in professional liability matters.
