Jay C.S. Tai is a partner in the Corporate Department. His practice focuses on private equity, mergers and acquisitions, and complex corporate and commercial transactions. Jay has extensive experience representing regional and global private equity funds, venture capital funds, hedge funds, investment banks and strategic investors in their investment activities throughout Asia, particularly in China, including direct secondaries and portfolio restructurings.
He has advised clients on deals involving a broad range of industries, including real estate, manufacturing, health care, education, telecommunications and media; and jurisdictions in Asia, including China, Japan, Korea, Singapore and Malaysia.
Jay is ranked as a “recognized practitioner” by Chambers Asia Pacific2017 and 2018. Clients describes him as very “hands on” and having “solid industry knowledge,” while “focusing on the legal technical aspect of the deal whilst still being very mindful on the commercial aspect.”

A recognized authority on private equity and mergers and acquisitions, Jay has given speeches at various conferences and client-sponsored events on topics such as “PE Financings – Some Recent Trends and Regulatory Pitfalls”; “Recent Developments Affecting Private Equity Practices and Their Practical Impact” at In-House Congress; and “Private Equity Investments in China – Legal and Regulatory Challenges for Funds Investing in China” at Asian Business Lawyer’s M&A seminar series. He recently co-authored a chapter on “Trends and Challenges for Companies Doing Business in Asia” for a Thomson Reuters/Aspatore publication.
