  • A successful motion to dismiss a putative class action involving claims that a bank’s extended overdraft fees violated the National Banking Act;
  • A successful opposition to class certification in a case by holders of several residential mortgage back securities trusts involving claims against the RMBS trustee;
  • A successful motion to dismiss a fraud claim by former holders of auction rate securities against an indenture trustee;
  • A successful motion to dismiss a Section 10(b) claim by a bank’s shareholders against the bank’s external auditor; and
  • A motion to dismiss third-party contribution claims arising out of a Ponzi scheme, resulting in the client bank’s stipulated dismissal.

Jed briefed and argued Smith v. United States, 860 F.3d 995 (7th Cir. 2017), in which he obtained a reversal of the district court’s entry of summary judgment against his client. He has also contributed to a number of amicus briefs and petitions for certiorari in the U.S. Supreme Court, on topics ranging from arbitration to personal jurisdiction to the availability of a Bivens remedy for constitutional violations.

Jed joined Mayer Brown after clerking for Judge Joel Flaum of the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and Judge Gary Feinerman of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

While in law school, he interned at the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut and was a member of the Yale Law School Supreme Court Advocacy Clinic, participating in both certiorari and merits briefing. He worked in the compliance department of a large hedge fund and asset management firm in New York City after college.
