Jeffrey A. Payne is a litigator in Munger, Tolles & Olson’s Los Angeles office. His practice focuses on complex civil litigation, intellectual property and corporate governance matters, and government and internal investigations.

Mr. Payne maintains an active pro bono practice centered on international human rights issues, for which Human Rights First awarded him a 2016 Pro Bono Star Award for his outstanding pro bono work on behalf of asylum seekers. Mr. Payne is a co-chair of the Los Angeles chapter of the Federal Bar Association’s Younger Lawyers Division.
Before joining Munger Tolles, Mr. Payne clerked for Judge Arthur L. Alarcón of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and Judge Otis D. Wright II of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
Mr. Payne earned his law degree from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles, where he was the chief technical editor for the Loyola of Los Angeles Law Review. Mr. Payne was also a Sayre McNeil Scholar at Loyola, a title awarded to the top 5 percent of each class. He also worked as a research assistant focused on the Electronic Funds Transfer Act and the Federal Truth in Lending Act, among other topics. He received his B.S. in music industry, magna cum laude, from the University of Southern California.
