Jenay Nurse is a highly qualified litigator who specializes in general litigation defense practices, including, but not limited to, antitrust, contract disputes, class action claims and derivative litigations. Jenay’s focus is on providing individually tailored solutions that efficiently satisfy the unique requirements of her clients.

As a member of the Public Service Initiative, Jenay litigates death penalty and federal habeas cases for indigent clients with a focus on vindicating the innocent and remedying purposeful and harmful constitutional violations. Jenay has also served as counsel for amici clients before the US Supreme Court.

She was awarded the 2011 Pro Bono Award from the Legal Aid Society for her work as pro bono counsel on Amador v. Andrews. She was featured in the New York Magazine article “New York’s Women Leaders in the Law.” Before joining The Bronx Defenders, Jenay was an associate at a New York-based an international law firm where she worked on antitrust litigation and mergers and acquisitions.

Prior to joining Squire Patton Boggs, she served as a supervising attorney and director of the Adolescent Defense Project at The Bronx Defenders. While at The Bronx Defenders, Jenay created the Adolescent Defense Project as a means of providing specialized holistic representation to 14-16 year olds prosecuted as adults.

She and her team of specially trained lawyers represented adolescents charged with serious felonies in Bronx Supreme Court and provided representation at school suspension hearings.  During her tenure at The Bronx Defenders, Jenay represented more than 1,500 clients charged with misdemeanors and felonies.

She has served on various boards and committees, including the New York City Department of Corrections Adolescent Advisory Board and the New York State Bar Association Criminal Law Committee. She is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Metropolitan Black Bar Association and the Black Bar Association of Bronx County.
