Jennifer Gentin is counsel in the Labor & Employment department of Seyfarth Shaw LLP and practices in all areas of labor and employment law, with particular emphasis in employment litigation, wrongful termination and unfair business competition. Ms. Gentin has more than 20 years’ experience defending employers, managers and employees in all phases of civil employment and business litigation.
She has both prosecuted and defended employers, managers and employees in civil actions for wrongful termination, sexual harassment, discrimination, defamation, intentional torts, breach of contract, fraud, negligence, wage disputes, unfair competition and misappropriation of trade secrets. She also has substantial experience responding to state and federal agency inquiries from the Department of Fair Employment and Housing and the Department of Labor.
Ms Gentin has conducted successful arbitrations and mediations before JAMS and the AAA and has both briefed and argued cases before the California Court of Appeals. She successfully briefed the case of Lockhart v. MVM, Inc., 175 Cal. App. 4th 1452 (2009) before the California Court of Appeal.
This published decision was a case of first impression in California in which the Court affirmed the dismissal of all the plaintiff’s employment state law claims on summary judgment based on the federal enclave doctrine.
In addition to her litigation practice, Ms. Gentin counsels clients on a broad spectrum of issues pertaining to the employment relationship. Her counseling practice includes recommending and drafting personnel policies and procedures, advising on discipline and termination issues with respect to individual employees, and preparing and consulting on employment agreements, and advising on the latest federal and state statutes in the employment arena.
Ms. Gentin has represented clients in a wide range of industries, including but not limited to, entertainment, health care, mortgage lending, banking, security and non-profit organizations both nationally and throughout the Southern California area.
