Ms. Jennifer Neilsson is a partner in the Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation Department of Seyfarth Shaw LLP’s Chicago office and Vice Chair of the firm’s Institutional Investor Practice Group. In connection with her representation of institutional investors, she evaluates risks related to fiduciary duties, corporate/partnership law, and tax law, as well as potential economic concerns. She regularly analyzes legal issues arising under Title I of ERISA.
Ms. Neilsson represents large institutional investors, including tax-exempt corporations, private and governmental defined benefit plans, and voluntary employee beneficiary associations, with respect to making a variety of investments. Specifically, she reviews investment management agreements and private equity, hedge, real estate, fixed income, and emerging market funds.
Additionally, Ms. Neilsson assists clients with the identification of issues arising under, and assistance in compliance with, the Internal Revenue Code, ERISA and applicable regulatory requirements related to retirement plans and executive compensation arrangements. She assists clients in drafting plan documents, plan amendments, and participant communications.
Ms. Neilsson also helps clients navigate retirement plan corrections and Internal Revenue Service and Department of Labor audits. Finally, Ms. Neilsson advises with respect to international tax issues that arise in the global workforce, including employer withholding obligations, FBAR filings, and FATCA compliance.
Prior to joining Seyfarth Shaw, Ms. Neilsson was an associate with two Boston-based law firms and worked briefly in-house at a hospital assisting with various retirement plan and executive compensation issues.
