Jodi Barrow is a Litigation associate in Weil’s New York office, where her practice focuses on complex commercial litigation in state and federal courts across the country. She has extensive experience with insurance, breach of contract, and securities-related matters.
Ms. Barrow also has pro bono experience, where she has focused primarily on matters aimed at securing public funding for children with special education needs. Additionally, she is a member of the New Leadership Counsel of the Metro New York chapter of the Make-a-Wish Foundation, which leads the Foundation’s strategic planning and fundraising initiatives, and she also serves as a “Wish Granter” for the organization.
Ms. Barrow also writes and publishes articles, including in the New York Law Journal, and also contributes to Weil’s client updates for several practice areas. Ms. Barrow received her J.D. from Columbia Law School, where she was a member of the Law Review, and her B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, where she graduated summa cum laude.
Ms. Barrow’s notable experience includes serving as a member of the Weil trial team that represented Vivendi in In re Vivendi Universal, S.A. Securities Litigation – the largest shareholder class action ever to go to trial. She also has served on a number of Weil teams that have obtained significant victories for Farmers Insurance Exchange and its affiliates.
In 2016, Ms. Barrow served as lead associate on a Weil team that secured two dismissals with prejudice of industry-wide qui tam complaints alleging Farmers and other defendants violated the False Claims Act for allegedly failing to reimburse the government for payments it made to Medicare beneficiaries in accordance with the Medicare Secondary Payer Statute; both dismissals were subsequently affirmed on appeal in 2017.
Earlier, she served as a member of the Weil team that secured a significant win for Farmers Insurance Exchange in an automobile insurance class action in federal court in Colorado, including the dismissal with prejudice of all claims asserted by one putative sub-class, and the defeat of certification of another putative sub-class.
Ms. Barrow also helped successfully defend Farmers, Mid-Century Insurance Co. and Truck Insurance Exchange in a separate class action related to the medical payment coverage under automobile insurance policies.
