Joel Crespo is a Senior Associate in the Special Matters and Investigations practice in King & Spalding’s Washington, D.C. office. Joel’s practice focuses on white-collar criminal defense, government investigations, internal corporate investigations, and congressional investigations.
His experience includes defending individuals and companies in investigations by the Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and state attorneys general.
He represents companies across a range of industries, including energy, banking, technology, and pharmaceuticals.
Prior to joining the firm, Joel was an associate at Skadden where he focused his practice on white-collar defense and civil litigation. He graduated from Boston University School of Law, where he was an article editor of the Public Interest Law Journal. Prior to law school, he worked as an investigative assistant for the Orange County Public Defender in Santa Ana, California.
Joel received a B.A. in Criminology, Law & Society and a B.A. in Chicano Studies from the University of California at Irvine. While at UC Irvine, Joel served as a reservist in the United States Marine Corps.
A member of the Hispanic National Bar Association, Joel has been appointed as Deputy to the Vice President of Divisions, Sections, and Committees, and as Chair of the HNBA’s Criminal Law Section. He also is a member of the National LGBT Bar Association, Hispanic Bar Association of DC, and LGBT Bar of DC.
