Joel M. Langdon defends companies and individuals in high-stakes civil and criminal matters. He has significant experience representing clients in complex litigation, including the defense of individual and class action product liability lawsuits. Joel also has substantial experience representing clients in internal investigations and criminal matters involving allegations of white collar crime.
Joel’s experience spans various stages of discovery and trial litigation, including e-discovery, depositions, witness preparation, motions practice, trial preparation, and jury trials. Joel is currently involved in Jones Day’s nationwide defense of the Engle-progeny smoking and health lawsuits brought against R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company.
He has been a member of numerous trial teams in cases tried to verdict, including the recent Jones v. R.J. Reynolds case, which resulted in a complete defense verdict. Joel also maintains an active and diverse pro bono practice in state and federal courts, including the representation of children in truancy proceedings, habeas corpus petitioners, asylum seekers, and unaccompanied immigrant children seeking Special Immigrant Juvenile Status.
Joel is a barrister of the Lamar Inn of Court, serves on the advisory board of the Emory Public Interest Committee, and serves as a member of the Southern Center for Human Rights Ambassadors. Prior to attending law school, Joel worked for a nonprofit organization where he focused on the issues of community development and affordable housing.
