John C. Redding has been able to form close working relationships with clients and develop a reputation for providing practical solutions to complex challenges. A Partner in Buckley Sandler LLP’s Los Angeles and San Francisco offices, Mr. Redding spearheads the firm’s Auto Finance practice and assists a variety of consumer lenders, banks, and other financial services industry participants in addressing legal and business challenges in an efficient and collegial manner.
With obvious strengths in auto lending and debt collection based on more than two decades in those fields, Mr. Redding’s practice features a strong broad-based background in all aspects of consumer financial services.
He regularly advises banks, auto finance companies, mortgage originators and servicers, and debt purchasers and collectors on regulatory and compliance matters involving the Dodd-Frank Act and the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau (CFPB), Federal Trade Commission (FTC), and other state and federal matters. He also represents financial institutions in state attorneys general investigations.
Before joining Buckley Sandler, Mr. Redding served as General Counsel and Associate General Counsel to several financial services and software companies where he ran in-house legal operations, engaged in corporate restructuring projects, and managed large-scale litigation. As Associate General Counsel for Accredited Home Lenders, Inc., Encore Capital Group and Midland Credit Management, Inc., he oversaw regulatory compliance, loan origination, servicing, and debt collection matters.
Mr. Redding has been recognized by Legal 500 in the area of Financial Services: Regulation. Mr. Redding is a member of the American Bar Association’s Consumer Financial Services Committee, and is the current Chair of the Personal Property Finance Subcommittee. He is also a member of the American Financial Services Association’s State Governmental Affairs Committee, the Operations and Regulatory Compliance Committee, and Chair of the Business Partners Subcommittee.
An acknowledged leader in the field of financial services, Mr. Redding is often sought out by the media for his insights, and was a contributing editor to Frequently Used Terms in Automobile Finance Transactions: The Jargon, Lingo, and Lore published by the American Bar Association. Mr. Redding received his J.D. from Southwestern University, his MBA from San Diego State University, and his B.S. from Marquette University.
