John Golian’s practice involves assisting clients in the acquisition, management and protection of intellectual property. He counsels clients in many aspects of intellectual property law, with a particular emphasis in patent-related matters.

His patent procurement experience includes all aspects of preparation and prosecution of U.S. and international patent applications in a number of diverse areas, including the computer software, telecommunications, pharmaceutical, medical device, mechanical and chemical arts.

John has experience in providing patentability opinions and conducting infringement and validity analyses. John also has performed due diligence analyses to assist clients in evaluating third-party patent portfolios for possible acquisition. John’s experience further includes assisting clients in complex patent cross-licensing negotiations.

John graduated summa cum laude from Creighton University School of Law. While in law school, John received the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in Constitutional Law, Torts, Legal Research, Property, Civil Procedure, Legal Writing and Lawyering Skills, Elder Law, Negotiable Instruments and Antitrust. He also served as vice president of the Intellectual Property Law Society, a law school mentor, and a Creighton law ambassador.

John was student articles editor of the Creighton Law Review and is also the author of Without A Net, The Supreme Court Attempts to Balance Patent Protection and Public Noticein Festo Corp. v. Shoketsu Kinzoku Kogyo Kabushiki Co., 36 Creighton Law Rev. 541 (2003).

Before entering law school, John worked for several years as an environmental engineer in consulting engineering firms, including Gannett Fleming, Inc. and HDR, Inc. As an engineer, John was responsible for the physical, chemical and biological process design of water and wastewater treatment facilities.

In addition, John coordinated the design work of architects and other engineers, including mechanical, electrical and structural engineers, and oversaw the construction of such facilities.
