John C. Hart is Of Counsel at Simpson Thacher. John has represented clients on a wide variety of tax matters, including IPOs; formation of private investment funds; REITs and real estate transactions; asset manager M&A; and publicly traded partnerships.
John is a fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel, a member and past President of the New York City Tax Club and a member and past Chair of the Private Investment Fund Tax Forum.
John has presented on UP-C and TRA transactions at the annual Practising Law Institute partnership tax conferences in San Francisco and NY and has also presented at conferences sponsored by New York University Real Estate Institute, the International Bar Association, the International Tax Institute, the Yale School of Management and other groups.
John received his J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School in 1979. He received his A.B. with High Distinction and Highest Honors in English Literature in 1976 from the University of Michigan, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
