John L. Litchfield is a senior counsel and litigation attorney with Foley & Lardner LLP. His primary practice includes counseling clients on a wide range of disability and employment-related matters, including disability accommodations under Titles I and III of the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Rehabilitation Act, website and technology accessibility for people with disabilities, public accommodations, sexual harassment and safe workplace compliance, family and medical leave issues, wage and hour compliance, and other state and federal employment laws.
Mr. Litchfield regularly represents employers in federal and state litigation matters relating disability discrimination, FMLA claims, and sexual harassment. Mr. Litchfield regularly conducts on-site trainings for clients and their employees covering workplace conduct, sexual harassment prevention, diversity and inclusion, and many other topics.
Mr. Litchfield is a member of the firm’s Labor & Employment and Business Litigation & Dispute Resolution Practices and is a leader in the firm’s ADA & FMLA Compliance Team.
Mr. Litchfield also works with clients and attorneys in the firm’s Government Enforcement, Compliance & White Collar Defense Practice to respond to government investigations, conduct internal investigations, and litigate disputes.
Mr. Litchfield has also successfully defended clients in False Claims Act and whistleblower litigation.
Mr. Litchfield also has experience in counseling clients on state and local campaign finance regulations, and has successfully represented clients with disputes before the City of Chicago Department of Procurement Services.
Education :
Mr. Litchfield earned his law degree from Loyola University Chicago School of Law (J.D., cum laude, 2009). In 2007, he attended a comparative law program in Rome, Italy and Oxford, England and in 2009 he attended a comparative law program in Santiago, Chile.
While attending Loyola, he was a senior editor of the International Law Review, and co-president and founder of OUTLAW, Loyola’s gay and lesbian student organization.
Mr. Litchfield received his master’s degree in international and European politics from the University of Edinburgh (M.Sc., 2005).
The title of his dissertation was “Implications of the European Union’s Neighborhood Policy: A Comparison to the Monroe Doctrine of 1823.” He is a graduate of Miami University, where he studied diplomacy and foreign affairs (B.A., dean’s list, 2004).

Mr. Litchfield is admitted to practice in Illinois and before the United States District Court for the Northern and Central Districts of Illinois.
Affiliations :
Mr. Litchfield currently serves as president for the Lesbian and Gay Bar Association of Chicago and is a board member of the Equality Illinois Political Action Committee.
