Jonathan Nelson
During his more than twelve-year legal career, Jon Nelson has represented clients in numerous trials in both Arkansas and Texas.
After practicing law in Texas, he served as a deputy prosecuting attorney in Northwest Arkansas. Jon has handled many thousands of criminal cases.
He also became a certified law enforcement instructor with the Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy and has taught more than 60 hours of police training to more than 300 local area law enforcement officers.
Through this experience, he has developed a keen awareness and understanding regarding the way in which police officers and prosecutors work to convict people charged with crimes.
Jon loves putting that knowledge to work for the clients of Norwood & Norwood to find ways to win! Mr. Norwood hand-picked Jon to be on the Norwood & Norwood DWI / DUI and criminal defense legal team after observing for several years how skilled Jon was as a deputy prosecuting attorney.
Mr. Nelson agreed to join the law firm because after being a prosecutor, and dealing with Norwood & Norwood on hundreds of cases, he admired how Norwood & Norwood fought for their clients.
Mr. Nelson graduated with honors from the University of Arkansas in 2000 with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, and he then graduated with honors from the University of Arkansas School of Law, where he obtained a law degree.
While in law school, Mr. Nelson served as a member and an editor of the ARKANSAS LAW REVIEW. He is licensed to practice law in Arkansas and Texas.
He is the author of a published article concerning federal and state constitutional protections against cruel and/or unusual punishment. 56 ARK. L. REV. 229 (2003).
Mr. Nelson also has served as an adjunct professor for the Northwest Arkansas Community College. He is married, and he and his wife are the proud parents of a daughter and a son.
