Jonathan S. Shenson received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1993, where he graduated first in his class in the economics department. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1996.
While at UCLA, he participated in the law school’s Moot Court Honors Program and was a member of the Pacific Basin Law Journal. After graduation, he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Edward D. Jellen, United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of California, from 1996 to 1998.
Jonathan spent the first six years in private practice as an associate with Latham & Watkins LLP (in the bankruptcy and finance departments). Prior to forming SLG, Jonathan was a partner with Klee, Tuchin, Bogdanoff & Stern LLP, from 2006 to 2012.
Jonathan’s practice includes representation of debtors, secured creditors (including debtor in possession lenders), committees, acquirers and other parties in chapter 11 cases, “out-of-court” restructures and work-outs, acquisitions, foreclosures, and assignments for the benefit of creditors.
He also regularly represents agents and lenders, borrowers and others in a broad array of credit transactions, including syndicated, single-bank, secured, unsecured, senior and subordinated credits and credit enhancement facilities. Jonathan is also a litigator and, when necessary, he can be very aggressive.
Jonathan is active in the entertainment space; representing Millennium Entertainment, LLC in connection with its acquisition of substantially all of the assets of First Look Studios Inc. (from the debtor-studio’s foreclosing lender) and Syndicated Communications Venture Partners V, LP, as agent for certain investors, in connection with its foreclosure of the film library of Maya Entertainment Group.
Jonathan is also active in the distressed-real estate space, and recently representing Karlin Real Estate, LLC in the acquisition and enforcement of secured loans against real estate interests in Nevada.
