Jorge Fernandez is a senior advisor in the firm’s Public Policy Practice. He has more than 20 years of international leadership experience as a member of strategic and operational teams for multinational, multibillion dollar companies operating in the Americas, Europe, Asia Pacific and the Middle East. He focuses on cross-border issues that connect business strategy, public policy engagement, advocacy and the formation and reformation of corporate culture.
Jorge’s tactical, comprehensive approach enables him to pinpoint the intersection of business and public policy. This allows the application and structuring of legal, regulatory and policy environments to a company’s best advantage. He recognizes clients’ needs and provides insight to assist them in developing bespoke strategies to ensure their business is “future proofed” and their operations are successfully sustained – both near- and long-term.
As a lawyer, Jorge applies the law to business and business to the law. While he motivates companies to think ahead, Jorge pays particular attention to shaping their existing cultures to focus on compliance. He has a proven record of successfully managing the lawful aspects relevant to global enterprises, while elevating the “legal IQ” of an organization and ultimately increasing its growth and bottom-line.
Jorge is skilled in building teams that are both practical and collaborative in their approaches to achieve and enhance a company’s varied objectives. Prior to joining the firm, Jorge was General Counsel of a worldwide manufacturer of confectionary and food products.
He was a member of its global leadership team and directed in-house and external attorneys, launched training initiatives and directed a variety of complex legal matters. He also held various positions in a leading American telecommunications company with special focus on overall product liability and corporate responsibility.
Jorge is fluent in English and Spanish and has basic knowledge of Portuguese. He received his J.D. from Escuela Libre De Derecho, where he also completed a professional thesis on Competition Law.
