Jose L. Trasfi is a corporate lawyer, admitted in Texas and Mexico, who concentrates his practice in cross-border mergers and acquisitions, corporate strategies and commercial contracts, including international procurement contracts, and license, franchise and distribution agreements.
He has extensive experience in trademarks, domain names and copyrights, and is knowledgeable about, and has actively advised clients on, compliance matters related to data privacy and anticorruption laws.
He has also served as senior legal counsel for Mexico’s Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE), where he was responsible for the administration of right of way agreements, and key legal counsel to numerous public tenders; as the chief of the International Affairs Office at the City Hall of Torreon, Mexico; and as a senior associate at Gonzalez Calvillo, S.C., where he focused on intellectual property law.
His experience in intellectual property law extends to national and international trademark and domain names disputes and registration, franchise agreements (adaptation of contracts based on US law to Mexican law) and arbitration.
Jose Luis has taught comparative law courses, focused on US law, in intellectual property and corporate law at the Universidad Iberoamericana (Plantel Laguna), and has authored several articles in the US and Mexico regarding intellectual property topics. Jose Luis also served as a law clerk at a federal court in Torreon, Coahuila (Mexico).
