Joseph Gonnella is an associate attorney practicing in the firm’s litigation department. He represents individuals and businesses in complex litigation and general liability matters in state and federal courts.
Mr. Gonnella has successfully argued and won a number of dispositive motions in defense of his clients’ interests, including demurrers, motions for nonsuit, and motions for judgment.
Prior to joining Higgs Fletcher & Mack, Mr. Gonnella served as a Judicial Extern to the Honorable Nita L. Stormes, Presiding Magistrate Judge for the U.S. District Court in the Southern District of California. Before that, he served as a Judicial Extern to the Honorable William S. Dato at the San Diego Superior Court.
Additionally, he was a Summer Associate for CareFusion Corporation. In this capacity he provided research for various departments, including litigation, contracts, corporate governance and securities, labor and employment, mergers and acquisitions, and regulatory matters.
Mr. Gonnella received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in management and human resources from California State Polytechnic University in Pomona.
He obtained his Juris Doctor from California Western School of Law where he ranked in the top five percent of his class and received several Academic Excellence Awards.
In addition, Mr. Gonnella was an Associate Writer and Executive Board member of the California Western Law Review, and author of award-winning publication Concealed Carry: Can Heller’s Handgun Leave the Home.
