Joseph A. Capraro guides intellectual property owners on how best to develop and strategically protect their IP assets. Joe, a partner in the Firm’s Patent Law and Intellectual Property Groups, leads the patent and trademark prosecution and technology licensing groups.
Over the course of his 25+ year career, Joe has developed broad experience in the protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights, managing intellectual property assets, working closely with the patent office to build valuable patent and trademark portfolios for U.S. and global clients. He aggressively pursues patent and trademark protection on behalf of his clients in technology fields often crowded with existing patents and publications.
Joe delivers clients practical legal advice across the entire spectrum of intellectual property areas, from strategic portfolio development, patent and trademark prosecution and technology licensing, to intellectual property due diligence in corporate transactions and intellectual property litigation support.
In addition, he provides freedom-to-operate analyses and patent clearance opinions, leads the Firm’s IPR and post-grant proceedings practice, performs pre-litigation patent reviews, conducts IP due diligence on corporate transactions, and negotiates IP licenses and agreements.
Joe spends much of his time working with private and public emerging technology companies as well as technology start-ups that have product offerings in the engineering arts, with particular emphasis on plasma devices, semiconductor equipment, analytical science solutions, power supplies, medical lasers, image processing devices, optical components, medical devices, alternative energy technologies, financial services, multimedia, software and telecommunications.
His clients have included Hypertherm, Inc., MKS Instruments, Inc., Helius Medical Technologies, Inc., Energetiq Technologies, Inc., Transamerica Capital Management, and Earth Networks Inc.
