J. Daniel Barlar is the firm’s managing partner with over 30 years as a general civil practitioner concentrating in the areas of commercial litigation, construction law and creditor rights in bankruptcy.
Mr. Barlar frequently represents suppliers, subcontractors, general contractors, and design professionals in construction negotiations and disputes, including lien filings, litigation, and judgment enforcement.
Mr. Barlar also focuses his practice in representing lenders and other creditors in transactions, workouts, foreclosures, repossessions, bankruptcies and collections. Mr. Barlar’s general practice also emphasizes the representation of individuals and small businesses with general advice, negotiations, and document preparation.
His diverse practice further includes individual and estate representation in probate matters, personal injury claims, insurance claim, and disability.
Mr. Barlar was born on August 10, 1953 and is a lifelong resident of Mobile, Alabama. He graduated from the University of South Alabama in 1975 with a BS degree in Criminal Justice Administration.
He received his J.D. in 1979 from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University, where he served as director of the Trial Advocacy Board and won the Corley Mock Trial Competition. He is a member of the MBA, where he has served on the grievance and fee dispute committees, among others.
He also is a member of the Alabama Bar Association, Commercial Law League of America, and the American Bankruptcy Institute. He is a practitioner in the State and Federal Courts in Alabama and the 11th Circuit. Mr. Barlar and his wife, Terri, have three daughters.
