Joseph E. (Joe) Finley is a litigator and trial lawyer with 20 years of experience representing companies in high-stakes business and tort litigation. His practice focuses on large and complex commercial cases in federal, state, and bankruptcy courts, as well as arbitrations and mediations.

Throughout his career, he has represented clients in a variety of industries including energy, banking, securities, health care, airline, automotive, recreational vehicles, and textiles.

Most recently, Joe led a team of Jones Day attorneys representing the owners of the Vogtle Units 3 & 4 Project in a three-year litigation concerning more than $1.5 billion in alleged cost overruns relating to the design and construction of the first new nuclear projects licensed in the U.S. in more than 30 years.

His recent trial experience includes defending Yamaha in a multi-week civil jury trial that was part of a series of product liability cases across the country. In addition, Joe has substantial experience handling shareholder disputes and class action lawsuits involving securities, corporate governance, and fiduciary issues, as well as internal investigations for corporations and board committees.

Before joining Jones Day, Joe served as a prosecutor in the U.S. Navy JAG Corps representing the government as lead counsel in a dozen felony jury trials and more than 50 bench trials and contested sentencing hearings.

He is a Master with the Lamar Inn of Court and a member of the ABA Forum on the Construction Industry. He also serves on the board of Park Pride, a nonprofit devoted to improving Atlanta’s parks.
