Joshua Drechsel was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1972, moving to the Tampa Bay area in 1979. He grew up in St. Petersburg and attended Jesuit High School in Tampa, graduating in 1990. He attended the University of Florida from 1990 to 1992, and graduated cum laude from the University of South Florida in 1994 with a B.A. in Criminal Justice. He graduated cum laude from Florida State University College of Law in 1997.
He was admitted to the Florida bar in 1997 and he is licensed to practice law in the state courts of Florida and the U.S. District Court, Middle District of Florida.
Mr. Drechsel began his legal career as an Assistant State Attorney for the Sixth Judicial Circuit in Pinellas County where he worked in both the Felony and Misdemeanor Divisions, including the position of a Lead Trial Attorney.
During his tenure as an Assistant State Attorney he tried over one hundred cases. He concentrated his efforts in the Domestic Violence Unit and developed an affinity for helping victims and relied immensely on the efforts of victim advocates. He entered the civil arena as an attorney with Morgan, Colling & Gilbert concentrating in the area of workers’ compensation litigation.
He along with two former partners of Morgan, Colling, and Gilbert, P.A. worked at the law firm of Fiol, Gomez & Blackburn, P.A. where he was in charge of the Personal Injury department specializing in the areas of personal injury including automobile/DUI accidents, premise liability, Workers’ Compensation, and Inadequate Security litigation.
