With a penchant for critical thinking and conflict resolution, Julia A. May’s restructuring litigation practice is a perfect fit. She focuses on bankruptcy and creditors’ rights, as well as commercial and contract litigation, both related and unrelated to bankruptcy proceedings. Julia graduated from law school at the height of the recession, which pushed her towards the booming practice of bankruptcy litigation.
Before joining Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP, Julia practiced at a large firm in New York for almost six years before relocating to Charlotte where she practiced at a small, local firm. Julia gained tremendous experience representing a broad range of clients, from massive corporate debtors in their chapter 11 cases, to government agencies, individuals in business disputes, property disputes, and even a wrongful death case.
Julia has experience handling virtually every aspect of bankruptcy and insolvency matters, from pre-petition matters to post-confirmation litigation. Her experience includes, but is not limited to, seeking or defending against appointment of Chapter 11 trustees and examiners, DIP financing, plan confirmation, issues related to relief from stay, and prosecuting and defending avoidance actions.
