Kai Lo concentrates his immigration law practice on employment-based immigration matters. He represents a diverse base of clients across a variety of industries, including sole proprietorships, start-ups, small to medium-size enterprises, multinational companies, publicly traded companies, public school districts, higher education institutions, think tanks and nonprofit organizations.
His practice encompasses nonimmigrant visas (e.g., B-1, E-1, E-2, E-3, H-1B, L-1A, L-1B, O-1 and TN), PERM labor certifications, immigrant visas, citizenship and I-9 compliance. He assists clients with high-volume nonimmigrant visa filings, complex L Blanket, L-1A and L-1B petitions, PERM filing and audits and BALCA appeals.
He also has counseled corporate clients on establishing corporate immigration policies and handbooks inclusive of immigration-related legal and LGBT issues.
In addition, Kai has represented clients of outstanding achievement in their EB-1A and EB-1B filings, and has filed immigrant petitions with a National Interest Waiver for certain foreign entrepreneurs.
He also represents individual foreign investor clients in their EB-5 immigrant petitions through direct investment or regional center pilot projects.
Kai serves as a pro bono attorney for eligible DACA applicants for the National Immigrant Justice Center and the Resurrection Projects, and participates in naturalization workshops. He also has served as a pro bono attorney at the Immigration Clinic of the Chicago Volunteer Legal Services.
Kai speaks, reads and writes English, Mandarin Chinese and Taiwanese.
EXPERIENCE:
- Obtained L-1 new office and extension approvals for corporate clients based on complex affiliation relationships
- Oversaw and managed the high volume filing of H-1B, L-1A, L-1B and E-2 visa applications for a global construction company
- Assisted public school districts to obtain J-1 two-year foreign residence waivers and H-1B visa status for their Mandarin Chinese teachers
- Counseled and established immigration and PERM strategies for a property management company
- Represented multiple international companies in their E-2 visa applications before the U.S. Consulates in Europe and Asia
